After 50 years away, The Happy Hollisters classic children’s mystery book series is back in print

jerry west was a pseudonym for Andrew Svenson, a prolific author who has written over 70 children’s books. As a partner in the Stratemeyer Syndicate, a book packaging company, Svenson has written, described and/or edited numerous volumes of the Rugged Boys, Nancy Drew, and Bobbsey twins series, among others. The Stratemeyer Syndicate assigned pseudonyms to their series books so that more than one author could contribute, but Svenson was the sole creator and author of Happy Hollisters. The five Hollister the children were modeled after Svenson’s own family and their adventures growing up.

Andrew Svenson researched and traveled extensively, giving Happy Hollisters books an educational aspect that is always appreciated by parents and teachers in public, charter and home schools. Children love that the mysteries are solved by the children themselves. Svenson said: “The trick in writing children’s books is to put the danger, the mystery and the excitement on the first page. To force a child to turn the page. Then, in the middle of each chapter , there is a point of dramatic excitement, and at the end of the chapter , a cliffhanger.” It’s a formula that hasn’t gone out of style, and getting kids to read is more important than ever.

A retro breath of the past, Happy Hollisters by jerry west are back. The 33 classic books, faithfully reproduced with original illustrations by Helen S. Hamiltonare available for sale on, IngramSpark and via official website.
