MI Art, children’s art studio in Kuala Lumpur (KL)

A unique artistic education company inspired by the “Multiple Intelligence” philosophy. Reached over 3,000 students in just 2 years.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – April 25, 2022 – A franchise business is often considered a high risk industry. It always depends on the nature of the business and the brand itself to grow together as the best channel. MI Art Founder, Sammion Loo Phek Choo has stepped up against the odds to launch unique art classes and tap into a franchise opportunity in the market.

She was excited to share her experience and said, “I started an education business after graduating from college. So in 2019, I decided to open an art class inspired by Professor Howard Gardner’s philosophy of “multiple intelligences”. Through his inspiration, his focus has been completely cleared since the day MI Art was founded. With the belief that art is the future of the education industry, she still believes that art education has more to do than empower children to become artists. She works hard to promote the concept and show the future of art to parents.

During the first year of MI Art’s journey, they started to get a lot of publicity by offering drawing classes, children’s hobby workshops and summer camps in many schools, including international schools. Soon the challenges came. The Covid-19 outbreak in 2020 changed everything. The education sector is also strongly impacted. Physical classes are restricted; therefore, MI Art had no choice but to turn into virtual learning.

With good perseverance and faith in the business, she managed to get over 3,000 students in just 2 years, and it keeps growing. This remarkable journey was attended by students from all over the world such as Singapore, UK, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Malaysia.

She said “the best achievement we have had is having over 99% positive feedback and compliments from parents and students on Google Review as well as Facebook Review. It is a remarkable step and an honor for us to have such recognition from them”.

Moreover, the success continues as she was also awarded as Best Intelligent Figures 2021 by China Press. Additionally, MI Art is honored as a Consumer’s Choice Award from MTPN (Majlis Tindakan Pengguna Negara). These two remarkable awards were significant proof that aesthetic education is the current trend in education in Malaysia and that MI Art is doing well as a trusted brand in the industry.

The critical success factor and uniqueness of MI Art is its teaching concept. The 2-hour lesson includes a painting and drawing session that promotes the philosophy of the center. One of the best things is that they always link academic knowledge in their art classes which is fun and helpful.

Apart from that, they have a special class for 3-6 year olds called Messy Art Play Program. This program focuses on the development of children through their dirty work.

Sammion believes that dirty work can help children with childhood development, such as communication, language and physical development, as well as support them independently.

In addition, before integrating the students into the different levels of the drawing lessons, a simple test will be carried out which aims to filter the future talents of the child. After gaining a basic understanding of the student, teachers will use the appropriate teaching method throughout the learning journey.

For future planning, they tend to bring back the physical lessons as it will improve the performance of the teaching and learning process. The teacher and the students can interact with each other, and it will definitely be beneficial for everyone. In addition to this, they are committed to bringing the MI Art brand to the international market and expanding their franchise chain to 150 branches.
