The Bristol Press – Bristol Press, New Britain Herald reverts to separate editions

The Bristol Press and the New Britain Herald will return to separate newspapers, according to Jody Boucher, regional editor of Connecticut News Media Inc.

“We are pleased to announce the decision to relaunch the Bristol Press and the New Britain Herald as their own community newspapers,” Boucher said. “We are convinced that the inhabitants of each community should have a newspaper dedicated to their local news.”

Boucher also said the newspapers would revert to the traditional vertical-fold or “leaflet” style.

“We are also delighted to announce that our print editions will be changing from a tabloid-style format to a full broadsheet, giving our readers an enhanced experience when picking up our newspapers,” she said.

Boucher said the planned changes will be positive for both newspapers.

“These changes will give Connecticut News Media a fresh start and we are excited about the opportunity to better serve the residents of these great communities,” she said.

Bristol Press editor James Drzewiecki said the broadsheet style was used from the press’s inception in 1871 until the early 2000s.

“We look forward to Bristol having its own newspaper again,” Drzewiecki said. “We’re also excited to bring it back to a full-size format; the way he looked.

Connecticut News Media editor Brad Carroll also expressed excitement over the announcement.

“Although few people like the change, I think this is one of the few times when everyone will be happy with the change,” he said. “Returning Bristol Press to the greater Bristol community, and likewise to the greater New Britain community and the New Britain Herald, as stand-alone newspapers, is in the best interests of our readers and for us too. We are excited to return to producing two separate newspapers and believe the community will embrace it as well.
